a comparative RESILIENCE & RESISTANCE RESEARCH project
Respnding to intensive urban development that is taking place in the post-shipyard (Gdańsk) and post-port areas (Aarhus).
These are important social and cultural legacy due hubs due to their industrial and political past and the fact that they were places of work for artists and independent creative ventures. There are many similarities in problems faced by the creative communities in both cities.
Artists and independent arts organizations fear that they will be gradually removed from these spaces and want to become agents in these decision-making processes.
The soft city project uses cultural tools in interdisciplinary cooperation regarding peer-learning; developing alternative, inclusive visions for spatial transformation of the post-port areas; ensuring the continuity of independent cultural and artistic activities (in the post-port & post-shipyard areas) – in this Polish-Danish partnership. This practice will serve to build the potential of creative communities in Gdańsk and Aarhus in terms of active agency in decision-making processes regarding the development of their cities.
The project is targeted within the topics of sustainability, the green transition and democratic dialogue within urban areas.

takes a longer historical reading of the changing face of south harbour and the battle that the creative community faces in light of the current development
From the Landsudstillingen, to the gasworks, saltworks to the appearance of grønland, spanien and Jægergårdsgade that re configure the site representing a change in use, community and activity.
Within that rich history of the industial public service (providing power, energy services to Aarhus and beyound sits alongside the creatives who have been adapting to this changing landscape since the 1980s. This adaptive resillience has been in evidence with the creation of community hubs, activities and ultimatley a local creative identity
