Social Life

in the arts tower

Commissioned to carry out a study of the social activity in the newly renovated Arts Tower in Sheffield, England (2011). The arts tower, hosting the architecture department had been temporarily relocated to the Crookesmoor building, a horizontal plane of geometric polygons, where the shared spaces were in stark contrast to the vertical transit lines of the Arts Tower - reinforced by the historic, integrated paternoster lift, aswell as the spiral staircase operating between a few upper floors. This overlapping verticality offered a different aproach to creating the dynamics of a colegiat atmosphere synonymous with the now ubiquitous studio system in the UK architectural educational system.
